About
Drimoleague Singing Festival
The Drimoleague Singing Festival features the best in contemporary and traditional Irish and international talent. Concerts and singing sessions (formal and informal) take place in various venues around the village; in the Parish Hall, in pubs, churches and other more unusual venues. It also includes singing and songwriting workshops, a singing competition and singing in schools.
The Drimoleague Singing Festival is a voluntary, not for profit, community-based initiative founded by three Drimoleague natives with a love for their home place and a passion for music and the arts.
There has been a great tradition of singing in the parish going back over many generations and while the opportunities may be fewer in the age of the internet and social media, when the occasion arises there is nothing more satisfying than a good old-fashioned sing-song.
The festival takes place on the weekend closest to the 25th September the feast of Saint Finbarr the patron saint of Cork. The date also coincided with the most important fair of the year locally which was known as “Big Fair Day”. We hope the festival will revive memories for many older members of our community when people from all over West Cork and beyond gathered every year in Drimoleague in late September to enjoy a day filled with fun and frolics.
Our aim is to provide an opportunity for direct participation by people from Drimoleague and visitors alike and to develop Drimoleague Singing Festival into one of the most dynamic and energetic events in the national musical calendar.
