Each year the finest singers come to Drimoleague and give workshops open to everyone of any ability. This year we have focused on ballad singing for our Saturday morning workshop. The ballad is intrinsic to our tradition, and we are delighted to have the hugely popular singer Elle Marie O’Dywer to share her knowledge with us.

​

On Sunday morning come and learn from a man whose knowledge of traditional singing is unparalleled.  Micheál is a traditional singer/songwriter with Cork and Clare roots living in Co. Waterford since 1970. His songs have been broadcast on TV and radio over the past 40 years and he has won numerous prizes including 1st place at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in both Irish and English newly composed ballads. A number of his songs have been recorded by other singers. His CD Between Miltown & Ennistymon (2004) features his best-known songs, including The Ballad of Binder Twine and The Island of Australia. In 2023 he along with his late wife Mary received the coveted Nioclás Tóibín award for their dedication to the traditional performing arts. He has been a guest singer at numerous singers clubs all over Ireland. A fantastic opportunity to pick up tips from the very best.
